Wax Trax has been doing this since the 70s, and it shows in the best way. Two rooms packed floor to ceiling with vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and posters, split between new arrivals and a used section that rewards patient diggers. The punk and metal selection is deep, but you'll find jazz, soul, hip hop, and whatever weird psych record you didn't know you needed. Staff actually know music and won't make you feel dumb for asking questions. It smells like old cardboard and good taste. This is a browse-for-an-hour kind of shop, not a quick in-and-out. Go on a slow Saturday, flip through the bins, and let yourself get sidetracked. Cap Hill locals treat it like a second living room, and once you've dug through the crates once, you'll get it too.
