Midweek in Denver: Tonight & Tomorrow (August 19)
The best of Wednesday and Thursday in Denver: shows, socials, and reasons the weekend can wait.
Real talk: the "weekend" doesn't start Friday, it starts whenever the plans are actually good. This week that's tonight and tomorrow, and both nights are stacked enough that Friday might feel like a letdown by comparison.
We've got Red Rocks twice, a legit honky-tonk night, baseball under the lights, and a Thursday that somehow has better music than most Saturdays. Pick your fighter and go.
Tonight
ILLENIUM at Red Rocks, 7pm, Red Rocks Amphitheatre. If you've been sitting on tickets, tonight's the night. Red Rocks on a Wednesday hits different when the sun's going down over the rocks and the bass is doing the rest.
Rockies vs. Dodgers, 6:40pm, Coors Field. LA's in town, the weather's perfect for a night game, and a $6 beer with a view of downtown is still one of the best cheap dates in the city.
Grizzly Rose Line Dancing Night, 6:30pm, Grizzly Rose (5450 N Valley Highway). Free lesson, no cliques, boots optional. It's a millennial/Gen Z takeover of the legendary honky-tonk and then board games after if your hips give out.
Rocky Mountain Space Social, 5pm, Launch Pad Brewery. Low-key beer and community hang for anyone who likes space, science, or just meeting new people who aren't talking about their jobs.
HTB Run Club, 6:30pm, Highland Tap & Burger. Free run, then dinner and drink specials right after. Easiest way to justify a burger on a school night.
Tomorrow
Joe Russo's Almost Dead, 7pm, Mission Ballroom. Marco Benevento, Tom Hamilton, Joe Russo and friends doing their thing for anyone who wishes they'd caught the Dead the first time around. This one's going to run long and loose in the best way.
Tori Amos: In Times of Dragons Tour, 8pm, Red Rocks Amphitheatre. With Bartees Strange opening. Red Rocks two nights in a row, but this one's a completely different mood: piano, vocals, and a setting that makes it feel like a moment.
Thee Sacred Souls x LA LOM, 6pm, JUNKYARD. Soul and psych-cumbia on the same bill in a venue that still feels new. Get there early, it's going to fill up.
Geeks Who Drink Trivia, 7pm, Denver Milk Market (1800 Wazee St). $10 pizzas, $10 drinks, and trivia that's actually hard enough to be fun. Bring a team or make one on the spot.
L'Apero de Denver French Happy Hour, 7pm, rotating bars (this week check Forest Room 5, Improper City, or Barcelona Wine Bar). Wine, good patios, and a crowd that actually talks to strangers. Email in to get the location drop.
Tempo Thursday, 6:30pm, Denver Beer Company (1695 Platte St). Free run, BOGO beers after. Basically a happy hour with a warmup built in.
