The Best Breakfast Burritos in Denver (2026), Beyond the Usual Green Chile Spots
Denver runs on breakfast burritos. Past the classics, these are the ones people actually argue about in 2026, from a $7.55 North Denver staple to a duck-fat potato burrito.
Denver runs on breakfast burritos, and green chile is the whole point. The classics, Santiago's, Sam's No. 3, Chubby's and Tacos Jalisco, are covered in our green chile guide. This list goes past them, to the burritos people actually argue about in 2026. Every spot was confirmed open in October, and prices are from spring 2026.
The quick picks
- Best overall: Onefold.
- Best value: La Fuente, at $7.55.
- Biggest: the Javelina at Bonfire Burritos.
- Best one you'd never find: Salita, inside a Capitol Hill cocktail lounge.
- Best barbecue burrito: Smōk in RiNo.
- Readers' pick: Renegade Burrito, Westword's 2026 readers' choice.
Onefold, Uptown and Union Station
The best breakfast burrito in Denver. It's built on a handmade tortilla with eggs, duck-fat-fried potatoes, asadero cheese, green chile and Tender Belly pork, or maple or habanero bacon if you'd rather. It runs about $15, it's served all day and it's big enough that you'll want a fork by the end. Go to the original at 1420 East 18th Avenue, or the Union Station location at 1919 19th Street.
Blackbelly, Berkeley
A butcher shop burrito. The Butcher's burrito at Blackbelly's Denver location, 4324 West 41st Avenue, comes with farm eggs, tater tots, cheese, house green chile and whatever meat the head butcher picked that day. Past rotations have included chorizo, carnitas and braised beef. The green chile is thickened with masa instead of flour, so it's gluten-free. About $10.
Bonfire Burritos, Golden and Wheat Ridge
The biggest burrito on this list. Order the Javelina, a giant flour tortilla packed with chorizo, crispy hash browns, grilled pineapple, Cotija, green chile and jalapeño-pineapple crema. The flagship is at 2221 Ford Street in Golden, with 4.6 stars across more than 4,000 reviews, and there's a full bar if it's that kind of morning.
La Fuente, Berkeley
The value pick, and a North Denver institution. La Fuente's burrito is a flour tortilla with soft potatoes, stringy cheese, green chile and your choice of meat for $7.55. Get chorizo. It opens at 7 a.m. at 3023 West 44th Avenue, and you can call ahead for pickup.
Garibaldi Mexican Bistro, Englewood
A gas-station burrito, in the best way. Garibaldi is attached to a Conoco at 3298 South Broadway and turns out a very large burrito with scrambled eggs, crispy hash browns, house green chile and chorizo, sausage or bacon for $8. Add extra green chile on top for $1.50.
Smōk, RiNo
A barbecue burrito. Smōk, inside the Source Hotel at 3330 Brighton Boulevard, fills its burrito with brisket, bacon, chorizo or veggies, plus scrambled eggs, tater tots, cheddar jack, Hatch green chile and queso. It's a two-hander. Breakfast runs Tuesday through Sunday from 7:30 to 10 a.m., and you have to order online ahead of time. Our RiNo guide has more around Brighton Boulevard.
Salita, Capitol Hill
The insider pick. Salita, at 701 Grant Street, is a craft cocktail lounge from chef Frank Bonanno, and its morning burritos are made by a line cook from Mizuna. Expect eggs, potatoes, cheese, chorizo or bacon and red or green salsa for $6 to $7. Grab one and walk a block to Governors Park. For the rest of the neighborhood, see our Capitol Hill guide.
Renegade Burrito, two locations
The people's choice. Renegade took first place for breakfast burritos in Westword's 2026 readers' poll, which is about as close to a popular vote as Denver burritos get. Find it at 2171 South Grape Street and at 5155 East 39th Avenue.
Fast and cheap
- Sabor Express Mexican Grill in Bear Valley, at 5600 West Dartmouth Avenue, keeps grab-and-go burritos in a hot case for $5 to $6. Get tamales while you're there.
- Illegal Pete's does a build-your-own breakfast burrito with pork green chile for about $8, but only on weekends until 1 p.m.
- Little Anita's serves New Mexico-style burritos at several metro locations. The chile is milder than Denver-style, and you can get red or green mixed right in.
How to order like a local
- Smothered or handheld? Smothered means covered in green chile and eaten with a fork. Handheld means the chile is inside. Both count.
- Try chorizo at least once. It's the move at La Fuente, and nearly every menu here has it.
- Ask for extra chile on the side. It's usually a dollar or two, and it's always worth it.
- Go early on weekends. The popular spots get slammed by mid-morning. Sleeping in? Our brunch guide has better late-morning options.
