Try This: Little Blue Pigeon, a Tiny Bookshop on Larimer Square

Little Blue Pigeon is a small, owner-picked bookshop on Larimer Square that's built for walking in and leaving with one good book.

If you've got a free hour downtown this week, go buy a book from actual humans at Little Blue Pigeon. It's a small shop at 1413 Larimer St, and the whole point is that somebody picked every title on the shelf on purpose.

It's Halloween today, so maybe not tonight. But the shop is open every day, and it makes a better reason to be on Larimer Square than circling for parking before dinner.

Google has it at 4.9 stars from 46 reviews (as of 2026-09-09, via our directory). That's a small sample, but it's a small store.

Who it's for

The tags on Little Blue Pigeon are bookstore, gift-shop, date-night, locally-owned and walkable, which covers it. If you hate scrolling through endless shelves and would rather someone just hand you the good one, this is your place.

It's also an easy gift stop. A book with a staff recommendation behind it beats another candle.

What to try first

Read the handwritten recommendation cards. Our listing says the owners leave them in the stacks, along with their picks up front, so start there before you browse the rest.

Then talk to whoever's at the counter. Tell them the last book you loved and let them do the work. The shop is set up for short, chatty visits, so go in with a person in mind if you're gift shopping.

What to expect

It's small and shelf space is tight. You won't get lost in it for an afternoon, and that's fine. The store is built for a quick, personal stop: walk in, chat, leave with something.

Hours, per Google (they can change, so check before you go):

  • Monday: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Tuesday through Saturday: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Sunday: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Note the early close on Sundays and Mondays. If you're planning a weekday after-work stop, you need to be there by 6.

The neighborhood

It's in LoDo on Larimer Square, which means you can stack it with dinner without moving your car. The listing pitches it as a stop between coffee and dinner, and that's the right way to use it.

Tavernetta is 0.38 miles away and sits at 4.6 stars from 2511 reviews (as of 2026-05-02). Book a table, grab your book at 5, read at the bar if you're early.

For a drink with a view, 54thirty Rooftop is 0.39 miles out, at 4.7 stars from 3243 reviews (as of 2026-05-02). Bring your new book, or at least the bag, so your date knows you're interesting.
