Denver's most loyal traditions cost nothing. The summer concert series that's been running for 40 years, the art walks on the same Friday every month, the farmers markets that double as Sunday morning rituals, the sunrise workout community that's been there for a decade. If your social calendar is empty and your budget is tight, this is the map.

New Year's Eve Fireworks at 16th Street

Two free fireworks shows on the 16th Street Mall. The 9PM is for the families, midnight is for everyone else.

Santa Fe Art District First Friday

The original Denver art walk. 60+ galleries open late, food trucks, live music on the street.

RiNo First Friday Art Walk

First Friday of every month · RiNo · Free

Mural tours, gallery openings, breweries with extended hours. The party version of an art walk.

Tennyson Street First Friday

A neighborhood block party in the Berkeley neighborhood. Galleries, vendors, low-key.

Golden Triangle First Friday

Center for Visual Art (MSU Denver)

Contemporary art gallery on Santa Fe. Always free. Worth folding into a First Friday.

McNichols Civic Center Building

Rotating art exhibitions in a beautiful 1909 building. Most exhibits are free.

Parks and Trails (Always Free)

Every Denver park is free, and the trail system connects most of them. The greatest hits: Cheesman, Wash Park, City Park, Sloan's Lake, Confluence Park. The trail network: Cherry Creek Trail (downtown to Cherry Creek Reservoir), South Platte River Trail (north–south spine), Bear Creek Greenway (Sheridan to the foothills), High Line Canal Trail (71 miles).

Red Rocks Park is free to hike whenever there's no concert. The trails open at 5AM. Sunrise from the amphitheater is one of the best free hours in Colorado.

Author talks, film screenings, language exchanges, technology classes, kid programming, board game nights, writing workshops. The branch calendars are the most underused free social resource in Denver.

Rockies upper deck $10–20, Nuggets $20+, Avalanche $35+, Rapids $20+

The Rockies upper deck Rockpile is famously $10. Nuggets and Avalanche cheap seats run $20–40 in non-playoff games. Denver Outlaws lacrosse and Colorado Mammoth tickets start under $20.
