Game Day: Avalanche vs. Flames on Halloween Night at Ball Arena

The Avs host Calgary at Ball Arena on Saturday, October 31 at 8pm, with bars, pregame spots and the train stop to know.

Your Halloween plans just got a hockey option: the Avalanche host the Calgary Flames at Ball Arena on Saturday, October 31, at 8pm. That's late enough to do costumes first and still make puck drop.

This is the second of three meetings between these teams this season, and the first one went very well for Colorado. Details are on our event page.

The matchup

The Avs beat the Flames 7-3 in Calgary on October 8, according to the NHL's game preview. That was game one of three this season.

The name to watch is Martin Necas, who has 14 points in 15 regular-season games against the Flames, per that same NHL preview. If you want someone to yell for, he's the obvious pick.

ESPN lists the game on ESPN+, so if you're watching from home, that's where to look.

Watching from a bar

Run For The Roses at 1801 Blake St #10 in LoDo is the closest, 0.64 miles from the arena in a straight line. Our listing tags it as a sports bar, with bourbon and cocktails on the tag list too. It's at 4.4 stars on Google from 330 reviews (as of 2026-05-02).

Bar 404 at 404 North Broadway is 2.1 miles out and describes itself as both a local sports bar and an independent music venue. Google price level is $, and it sits at 4.5 stars from 287 reviews (as of 2026-05-02).

Players Pub at 8 S Broadway in Baker is 2.49 miles away and tagged as a sports bar with local beer. It's 4.5 stars from 249 reviews (as of 2026-05-02), Google price level $$. Good pick if you live south and don't want to deal with downtown on Halloween.

More options live in our bars directory.

Pregame near the venue

Tavernetta at 1889 16th St Mall is 0.43 miles from the arena. It's Italian with pasta and a wine bar, Google price level $$$, and 4.6 stars from 2,511 reviews (as of 2026-05-02). Make it a date night that ends with a hockey game.

My Brother's Bar at 2376 15th St is 0.53 miles away and the cheaper move: a dive with burgers, Google price level $, and 4.5 stars from 2,965 reviews (as of 2026-05-02). It's tagged cash-only, so hit an ATM first.

Getting there and home

The light rail stop is Ball Arena/Elitch Gardens Station at 1700 9th Street, per RTD's station page. There's no RTD parking there, so don't plan on parking at the station.

Ball Arena's transit page also mentions an RTD bus stop at 9th Street and Auraria Parkway served by multiple routes. For which line or route gets you home from your neighborhood, run it through RTD's trip planner before you leave, since late-night Halloween rides are not when you want to improvise.
