Split Decision: The Bagel Deli vs Rosenberg's Bagels, Bagel and Schmear
The Bagel Deli vs Rosenberg's Bagels: one bagel with plain cream cheese at each, and the numbers pick a winner on paper.
Bring up bagels at a Denver brunch and somebody's going to defend one of these two like it's family. The Bagel Deli has been at 6439 E Hampden Ave since 1971 (the family's first Bagel Deli dates to 1967, per Westword), and Rosenberg's Bagels opened at 725 E 26th Ave in Five Points in 2014. Same order at both: one bagel with plain cream cheese, everything where the menu names flavors, toasted or not however they serve it, no lox.
One wrinkle worth knowing: Westword reported in a story from around February 2025 that The Bagel Deli buys its bagels from Moe's. Axios Denver wrote in August 2026 that the deli serves homemade bagels, so the two accounts don't match and we couldn't confirm which one holds today.
Short version: The Bagel Deli takes it on paper, with the cards split 1-1 and Consistency breaking the tie.
The scorecard
- Price: The Bagel Deli posts A Bagel & Homemade Cream Cheese with plain cream cheese at $5.95, no size listed. Rosenberg's lists Plain Cream Cheese on a bagel at $6.00, no size listed, on a menu dated 2.21.25. Both checked Oct 22, 2026. A 5-cent gap sits inside our 50-cent line. Card: nobody.
- Consistency: The Bagel Deli has 4.7 stars on 2,599 Google reviews (score 16.06). Rosenberg's has 4.4 stars on 2,760 reviews (score 15.15). Both are from our directory's snapshot as of May 2, 2026. Rosenberg's has more reviews, and the 0.3-star gap still outweighs them. Card: The Bagel Deli.
- Track Record: The Bagel Deli made Westword's The Ten Best Places to Eat Breakfast in Denver (2025), and Tasting Table named it the most iconic place to get a sandwich in Colorado, per a Westword story from around February 2025. Rosenberg's won Westword's Best of Denver Best Sandwich Shop for Bagels (2021, a critics' pick covering the brand's locations) and made 303 Magazine's 5 East Coast-Inspired Bagel Shops in Denver (2025). Two each, and a named Best of Denver win outranks list spots. Rosenberg's No. 4 of five finish in 5280's blind bagel ranking isn't an honor, so it doesn't count. Card: Rosenberg's Bagels.
- The Bite: On paper. This card is Michael's call and only counts once he's eaten at both, so it stays blank for now. Card: nobody.
The verdict
The Bagel Deli wins on paper. The cards split 1-1, Price is a 5-cent wash and The Bite is blank, so the tiebreak goes to Consistency: 16.06 to 15.15, built on 4.7 stars against 4.4.
When the loser is still the right call
- You're in Five Points or anywhere near 26th and Downing. Rosenberg's is at 725 E 26th Ave, and The Bagel Deli is out at 6439 E Hampden Ave in southeast Denver.
- You want to plan around posted hours. Rosenberg's Five Points page says it's open every day 7am to 3pm.
- You'll skip the schmear. A classic bagel single is $3.00 on Rosenberg's menu dated 2.21.25, and everything is one of its listed flavors.
What to order at each
- The Bagel Deli: A Bagel & Homemade Cream Cheese with plain cream cheese, $5.95. The menu heads its Deli Sandwiches section "The Ones That Put Us on the Map," and under "Hot off the Steam Table" the Corned Beef and Pastrami ($17.95 each) both carry a Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives badge.
- Rosenberg's Bagels: an everything bagel with Plain Cream Cheese, $6.00 on the menu dated 2.21.25. We couldn't find a house-favorite label on that menu or the Five Points page.
How we scored it: prices are as posted on each spot's own menu, checked Oct 22, 2026, and ratings come from our directory's Google snapshot as of May 2, 2026, scored as rating x log10(reviews + 10). Track record counts honors since 2021 from the linked sources. The Bite counts only when Michael has eaten at both in the past year.
