The Denver Summer Bucket List (2026)

The Denver Summer Bucket List (2026)

Updated May 2026

Summer in Denver runs about 18 weeks and packs more into them than most cities manage in twice that. The list below is the canonical version — 30 things that make summer here actually summer, sorted by category. Some you can knock out in a single weekend. Others are the kind of thing you plan a year around. Treat it like a checklist; copy it; share it; argue with it.

The Must-Dos (Non-Negotiable)

01

See a concert at Red Rocks

Morrison · 30 min from downtown · $40–$200+

The single non-negotiable Denver experience. Pick literally any artist who's booked — the venue is what you're paying for. Best in June through early August before the wildfire smoke window opens.

02

A Rockies game from the Rockpile

Coors Field · $10 seats · Any home game April–September

$10 standalone bleacher section with the best mountain views in the stadium. The baseball is incidental; the experience is the point.

03

Sunday evening at City Park Jazz

Ferril Lake Pavilion · 6–8 PM · June–August · Free

40 years running in 2026. Bring a chair, wine, a dog, and someone you like. The most reliable free social ritual in the city.

04

Drive Mount Blue Sky to the summit

75 min from downtown · $15 vehicle fee · Late May–early September

The highest paved road in North America, climbing to 14,130 feet. Goats, sheep, alpine lakes, and a "you cannot believe this is real" moment at the top. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day, weather dependent.

05

First Friday on Santa Fe

Santa Fe Arts District · First Friday monthly · Free

60+ galleries open late, food trucks on the street, live music, and a crowd that turns the strip into a walkable monthly festival. The most reliable free Friday night plan in the city.

Outdoor Adventures

06

Tube Clear Creek in Golden

Golden · Late June–August (peak flow drops) · $15–25 rental

Rent tubes, float Clear Creek through downtown Golden, eat at a brewery afterward. The defining Denver-summer group activity. Bring a waterproof speaker and sunscreen.

07

Hike to the Walker Castle ruins at Mt. Falcon

Morrison · 30 min from downtown · 7 miles round trip

Hike through pine forest and meadow to the stone ruins of John Brisben Walker's never-completed mountaintop mansion. Walker is the same guy who built Red Rocks. The history is real and the views are bigger than they have any right to be.

08

Climb a 14er — start with Mt. Bierstadt

Guanella Pass · 75 min from downtown · 7 miles · Strenuous

The most accessible 14,000-foot summit near Denver. Real altitude work, real elevation gain, but on a clear, well-maintained trail. Start before sunrise to be off the summit by noon. A genuine "I climbed a 14er" moment.

09

Bike the South Platte River Trail

Confluence Park to Globeville Landing · Free · 2 hours

Rent a B-Cycle e-bike at Confluence Park and ride north through the river corridor — Globeville Landing, riverside breweries, mural districts. The most underused mobility infrastructure in Denver.

10

Paddle Sloan's Lake at sunset

Sloan's Lake · Kayak/SUP rentals at the lake · $25–40

Late afternoon paddle on Denver's biggest lake with the Front Range catching alpenglow behind you. Beat the wind by starting after 5PM in summer. Pair with dinner at Odell rooftop overlooking the same water.

11

Watch sunset from Daniels Park

30 min south of Denver · Free · Year-round but best in summer

Panoramic Front Range views with bison grazing in the foreground (yes, real bison, the City of Denver owns the herd). The most photographed sunset spot in the metro and the least-crowded among the obvious choices.

Food + Drink

12

Sunset drink at El Five

LoHi · 5th-floor rooftop · $$$

Mediterranean small plates on a fifth-floor rooftop with the most unobstructed Front Range sunset view in the city. Reservations a week+ out for prime weather. Worth the planning.

13

Brunch at Linger

LoHi · Weekend brunch · $$$

The patio on top of a former mortuary, mountain views, and globally-inspired brunch that has been the gold standard for over a decade. Book it.

14

Omakase at Sushi Den

South Pearl · Reservations required · $$$$

The best sushi in Denver, full stop, with fish flown in from Tokyo daily. Pair with a walk on South Pearl before or after. Pearl Street Sunday Farmers Market mornings extend this naturally.

15

Tacos at El Taco de México

714 Santa Fe Dr · Open since 1985 · $

A Denver institution. Pastor tacos and chile relleno burritos. Counter-service, no frills, no Instagram lighting. The benchmark.

16

Sunday morning at South Pearl Farmers Market

S Pearl St · Sundays 9AM–1PM · May–November · Free

Best farmers market in the city and the most reliable Sunday morning social ritual. Bring coffee. Become a regular.

17

A drink at ESP HiFi

1029 Santa Fe Dr · Listening bar · $$

Denver's vinyl listening bar — lower volume, better drinks, actual conversation. Go on a Sunday or Monday when the regulars are around and the bartenders have time.

Music + Culture

18

Catch a small show at Globe Hall

Globeville · Various nights · $20–$40

Texas-style BBQ inside a 1903 Croatian-Slovenian lodge, with a stage in the back that has launched Charley Crockett, Billy Strings, the Black Pumas, and Sierra Ferrell — all before they played Red Rocks. Catch someone in advance.

19

A free Levitt Pavilion concert

Ruby Hill Park · May–September · Free

50+ free shows per summer at the amphitheater in Ruby Hill Park. National acts, local openers, and the most underused free thing in the Denver music scene.

20

Underground Music Showcase (UMS)

South Broadway · July · ~$60 weekend pass

200+ bands across 15+ South Broadway venues over three days. The cheapest serious music festival in Colorado and the best showcase of where Denver's music scene actually is.

21

Film on the Rocks at Red Rocks

Red Rocks · Monday nights, summer · ~$15

Outdoor movies at Red Rocks with live music opener. The cheapest way to be inside the amphitheater. Cult classics, indie picks, and the occasional throwback.

22

Visit Meow Wolf Convergence Station

1338 1st St · $55 · 21+ Adulti-Verse nights run periodically

Four interconnected worlds, narrative puzzles in every surface, the largest Meow Wolf installation. Adulti-Verse nights run weirder programming if you'd rather skip the kid crowd.

Day Trips Within 2 Hours

23

Soak at Indian Hot Springs in Idaho Springs

45 min from downtown · $25–35

Mineral hot springs in a historic 1860s spa building. The cave bath setup is the move. Pair with pizza at Beau Jo's and a wander around Miner Street.

24

Drive Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park

90 min to Estes Park · $30 vehicle fee · Late May–October

The highest continuous paved road in the U.S., topping out above 12,000 feet. Pull-outs every few miles, elk in the meadows, and a true alpine tundra ecosystem at the top. Reservation system applies in summer — book at recreation.gov.

25

Mt. Princeton Hot Springs

2.5 hours from Denver · $30+ · Day or overnight

The best hot springs experience within driving range — natural creek-side pools where you can build your own hot spot in the rocks, plus a developed resort with multiple pools. Better as an overnight in Buena Vista than a day trip.

26

Camp at Brainard Lake or in the Indian Peaks Wilderness

75 min from downtown · Reservation required at recreation.gov

Alpine lakes, peaks, and accessible backcountry within an hour and a half of the city. Brainard Lake Recreation Area requires a timed-entry permit in summer — plan ahead.
